I Wrote A Book!

I never thought I would actually get to this stage, but my book is finished and ready to order. I know lots of other writers and people I speak to feel like they would like to write a book and have some questions, so I thought I would answer as many questions as I could, if you have anything you would like to ask, please do so, either on social media @lifeandthelords, or in the comments for this blog post.

How did you find the time?

I must admit this was always my excuse before, I don’t have time to write! But the truth is, you do. An hour here and there, even 20 minutes a day or a few times a week yields results. What people don’t want to do is invest their time in something that will potentially lead to no financial reward. What I tried to do is forget the time = money mantra and just enjoy the process. I knew the story I wanted to write, the outline of it and the characters plus the scene. So it was just a case of plugging away at it.

How did you choose what to write about?

I have lots of story ideas constantly buzzing around in my head, but this was the one in the forefront. I love and read the genre myself and it was the story I wanted to read but hadn’t found yet. It changed slightly as I was writing it, but stayed true to the original ethos and I was pleased with the result.

Did you self-publish?

Yes. I submitted to a few publishers and got one acceptance for a hybrid publish, which to me is basically a vanity publish because they asked for money to cover costs. I suspect pretty much every one gets offered that from them. I got some helpful rejections and some just plain ‘No.’ I self-published it as an E-Book via Amazon. It is the easiest way to self-publish in my experience, and they offer free promotions to make use of.

How did you choose what to charge?

This is a difficult one. On the one hand, I wanted to make it affordable, it isn’t a long novel and is probably classed as a novella rather than a novel, so I wouldn’t be able to charge more than £10. I went for £4.99 because I know that this works out as ‘free’ in Kindle Unlimited, which is what I look for when I buy books on Amazon. On the other hand, I didn’t want to undercharge, you should always know your worth.

If you would like to take a look at my book, give it a read and leave a review that would be great. If you want to dip your toe into the omegaverse genre, take a look at the first few chapters of my next book, A breeder for the triplets.
