We’re approaching that time of year when the daylight disappears and the mood gets a little more spooky. Some may say that 2020 has been a year filled with weird and frightening things but Halloween allows us to inject a much needed element of fun and autonomy on the levels of gore and fright we want to experience on that day. As a lot of us won’t be able to enjoy the festivities in the way we have in previous years, I’ve compiled a list of ways in which you can harness the Halloween spirit at home!
Let’s get the competition started…
Now if you are one of those people who are all virtual quizzed out from weeks (if not months) of back to back virtual quizzes then you can skip to the next suggestion. For the three people who’ve stayed, I was of course talking about hosting a virtual Halloween costume party (or competition for those who share my fellow competitive spirit). Costume parties are a Hallmark feature of Halloween and this should not change just because you can’t do it irl – so get your mood boards out and sewing machines on! For some nifty ideas check out giffgaffs Halloween costume generator and of course, pinterest for some inspiration.
Cooking up a treat
While at home and probably peckish for some treats, why not try your hand out at making some Halloween inspired cakes and cookies. With a number of recipes available at your nearest search engine, it’ll be easy for you to tailor your creativity to the perfect tasty treats for you. What’s even better is that this year you won’t be sharing with any trick or treaters #smallwins.
It’s all fun and games
If like a lot of people at this time you’re looking for ways to minimise your daily dose of digital and do things that distract you from your phone. Well, it’s time to take the gaming back into the real world! For those of you who have kids and are wanting to add an element of activity to the games, building a Halloween style pinata will inject fun creativity and mess into your day. Your kids can dress up in their favourite Halloween costumes and take turns hitting the piñata with a broom handle or bat until the candy falls out… sounds like the perfect evening to me!
Frightening films
Once you’ve got everyone tired out next it’s time to move onto the sofa to indulge in a scary flick. If you plan ahead you can even make games around the film you choose with prizes, for the correct answers or if you are anything like me, take a sneaky sofa snooze before bedtime.
So what about you, have you been inspired this year to do Halloween at home? If so make sure to share below or on our social channels as we’d love to hear more about it!
