Star Trek Prodigy: Supernova Game Review

Published by Outright Games, Star Trek Prodigy: Supernova is a game inspired by Star Trek Prodigy: Supernova, the hit Paramount+ series that introduced the iconic Star Trek franchise to younger audiences in 2021. My husband and I are big Star Trek fans, so we are keen for our children to love it and embrace it too. Star Trek is one of the longest-running sci-fi franchises in the world, first launching in 1966. It has since been turned into multiple hit TV series, films, comics, video games, and more. Our favourite spin off is Star Trek: Voyager, which we have watched many times over. Closely followed by Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.

I introduced the game to Daniel (7) and William (13). Star Trek Prodigy: Supernova features all the voice talent from the show including the legendary Kate Mulgrew who reprises the role of Captain Janeway from Voyager, as she guides a new cast of young characters in the Star Trek universe. You can play individually or with another player as you explore the alien worlds of Orisi, Mirios, and Taresse and make first contact with alien inhabitants. You get to discover their secrets all while navigating the planets’ different hostile environments by tackling puzzles and combat challenges.

There is a story element with text to read in between the action, so the player needs to be able to read well or have an adult with them. The recommended age is from 7 upwards, so Daniel is on the lower end of the rating. He managed to read the text but he did skip some of it! He likes the action parts better. He got the hang of the controls straight away. We got the game for PS4, but you can also get it for the PlayStation 5 Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

William was able to master it straight away and he liked to explore each part of the level. The characters are around teen age and appeal to a younger audience. If you are a fan of the TV show you will really get into it. The graphics are bright and interactive and have great detail.

If you’re a Star Trek fan and you want to get your gamer kids into it, I recommend the game, it was great to hear Janeway’s voice in there. It is available to buy in-store where games are sold and online.
