Goodbye Blogtober, Hello NaNoWriMo

Blogtober (a blog a day in October) is nearly at an end, I’ve done reasonably well, I’ve only missed a few. I went away for half term and didn’t take my laptop, and writing on a mobile phone just isn’t a good idea! I’m back now and planning for my next writing challenge. NaNoWriMo stands for National November Write More Month or words to that effect. The idea is that you write 1666 words a day and by the end of the month you have a 50K word novel finished, just like that. I don’t know if I’ll manage it or not, but I’ve managed pretty much 500 words a day or more writing a blog a day, so how hard can it be? Famous last words ha ha.

I already have a novel in progress, so I could continue with that one. My problem with finishing, or indeed continuing, is that I can’t commit to a story. I have the idea for the main characters, their situation, and their ending, it’s the middle part that’s fuzzy. I also have 2 other ideas for novels. Should I start one of those? Should I just write what comes to me and hope it all sorts itself out? That’s what will probably happen. Here are my three novel propositions, perhaps you can help me with which one you want me to write, and I’ll go with the majority. Or, it could help me decide which one I prefer.

Novel one is the one I have started. It centers around a couple called Nik and Elyse. Elyse is a young dancer, singer, and actress who is starring in her first musical, Nik is a more seasoned professional. They struggle to get together because they are working together, and have problems along the way with an ex-girlfriend and the tabloids that threaten to tear them apart. Elyse is also going through a sexual awakening with Nik.

Novel two is more mainstream, it is called Agility, and the characters are a group of people who come together in a dog agility class. Together they train their dogs with the ultimate goal of competing and winning. You guessed it, two of the people fall in love, there are other mini stories with the other characters and the drama of the agility shows.

Novel three is an erotic novel, set in an alternative world where some women are trained to serve men sexually, others are elevated in society. There’s a romance in it, with both fighting against the roles they have in society. Together they pave a new way forward.

What do you think? I’d like to write all three eventually, but I feel like I should focus on one to start with. I will post some extracts on here as I go along.

  • Oh wow! Good luck with NaNoWriMo. 1666 words a day doesn’t sound that many but I think I would struggle.
I think I would prefer to read novel 2 but novel 3 sounds so interesting. x

  • Good luck with your new writing challenge. I would love to write more fiction again. I’d most like to read book 1 as I love books set in the theatre etc xxx
